Introduction to EYH
Your hub facilitator will deliver a presentation about how the module is run, what you need to do, and how you will be assessed. This will be the first session in your hub room, which you can find via the Hub Info page on this website. An icebreaker activity will follow to help you get to know the other members of your team.

Background Research
In this session, you will begin working on your project. You are now in the design phase, where you need to carry out background research to understand the context in which your solution will operate. To help organise your research, you may wish to use a mind map or a rich picture, which you learned to create during your first-year project week. Your facilitator will be available during this session to support you.

Context analysis
Once you have done your background research, or while you are doing it, it is valuable to have a systematic approach to organising the work and a framework to help avoid missing crucial details. In this session, you will work in your team through the Context Analysis Group Learn site to learn about different context analysis tools and how to select and apply the various frameworks. For the remainder of the session, you will perform a context analysis for your project. When completed, you can add this to your group report. You can download the group report template from the assessment page Group Report Template.

TEAM MEETING
In this student-led first session of the day, your team should review the progress made yesterday and look ahead to understand the plan and deliverables for the rest of the day. Discuss how you are working as a team. Are you making good use of the inclusive teamworking skills you developed on Monday? How will you work and divide tasks today? Will one member of the team act as leader for the day, and should this be a rotating role?

Goal Setting
In this phase of the design process, you need to articulate a precise engineering design brief. In your team, work through the group learn activity on goal setting to learn the material and how to apply it to a design problem. You will use the remainder of the session to set goals for your project. Your hub facilitator will be available to help if needed.

Ideation
The next phase of the design process is to generate conceptual ideas to fulfil the design brief. Your job is to use creativity to do this. If helpful, you can use the structured methodology for brainstorming taught in the first year, by employing the concepts of “proposing and building”. By the end of this session, you should have generated a number of conceptual ideas for your project, and add the most feasible ideas to the appropriate section of your group report.

Decision matrix
In the next phase of the design process, you will need to select one of your conceptual designs. There may be competing viewpoints and different advantages to different solutions. In this session, your team needs to agree on one conceptual design to take forward. If you need an objective methodology to follow, consider using a decision matrix as used in the first year. Your facilitator will be available to help you during this session.

Develop detailed design
Now that your final design has been selected, you need to develop the engineering details of the product, such as its size, shape, manufacture, operation, and end-of-life disposal. Some questions to prompt your thinking have been prepared for you. During this session your faculty staff member will be available to support you. Once your detailed engineering design has been developed, you should add it to the appropriate section of your group report.

TEAM MEETING
In this student-led first session of the day, your team should review the progress made yesterday and look ahead to understand the plan and deliverables for the rest of the day. How is your teamwork going? Today is the interim boardroom, so you may want to discuss how you will approach this as a team. Will one member act as leader for the day, and is this a different person from yesterday?

Presentation skills
Building on the basic presentation skills learned in the first year, you will work as a team to follow the instructions in this extended presentation skills group learning exercise. This includes deciding what content to include, how to make your points clearly, and how to manage nerves. Use the remainder of the time to prepare your presentation for the interim boardroom this afternoon. Design your slides, plan what will be discussed, and decide who will present each part. Your hub facilitator will be available to support you.

TEAM MEETING
In this student-led first session of the day, your team should review the progress made yesterday and look ahead to understand the plan and deliverables for the rest of the day. How did the interim presentation go? What feedback did you receive, and how can you use this to improve for the final presentation on Friday? Today will involve considering the logistics of your project and evaluating its ethics, inclusivity, and sustainability. Will one member act as leader for the day, and is this a different person from yesterday?

Project management
Your final conceptual design may be a product or a service. However, you will typically need a business or organisation to prototype, test, build, distribute, and provide customer support. This is the point where an engineering design becomes a project, and a project needs to be planned. In your team, follow the groupwork activity to learn the concepts of project management. Use the remainder of the session to apply this knowledge and begin outlining a project plan for your design. Add this material to the appropriate section of your group report. Your hub facilitator will be available to help if needed.
